The 34th edition of the Quinzena de Dança de Almada - International Dance Festival brought together approximately one hundred and twenty artists and professionals from the dance sector in the city, who participated in the various events of the program held between September 25th and October 11th, 2026.
Organized by the Companhia de Dança de Almada, the festival reaffirmed the municipality of Almada as a prominent center for contemporary choreographic creation in Portugal, annually welcoming representatives from multiple countries in a space for exchange between creators, the public, and professionals in the field.
During the two-week event, three full-night performances were presented, notably the world premiere of a production by the host company. The program also included two artistic residencies – resulting in a double bill presentation and a studio presentation of the work in progress – two performances in unconventional spaces (one of them a premiere), and the screening of a documentary film. Within the framework of the Saracoteio programme, in cooperation with similar festivals in Macau and Cape Verde, fifteen screendance works from Portuguese-speaking countries were screened, including one premiere.
In the International Platform for Choreographers section, the public could watch twenty-three short pieces, distributed across five distinct programs, including one premiere. Complementary activities included a seminar promoted in partnership with INET-md and two open meetings for dance sector artists and professionals, and the interested community. Regarding the four workshops initially planned, reasons beyond the organization's control dictated that only two were held.
The festival Quinzena de Dança de Almada is funded by the Almada City Council and the Government of the Portuguese Republic - Culture, Youth and Sport, through the Directorate-General for the Arts.
In 2026, its programming partners included Teatro Extremo, BIDE - Barcelona International Dance Exchange, Ieng Chi Dance Association Macao, Rollout - Dance Film Festival, Kontornu - International Festival of Dance & Performing Arts, UABÁ Festival - International VideoDance Festival Cabo Verde, Festival Interplay, Colectivo Glovo, Escola Superior de Dança, Pólo FMH do INET-md and CEAP - Centro de Estudos em Artes Cênicas da FMH.
The media partners were Jornal Almadense, Revista Bica, Gerador and RTP2.
It received sponsorship from the Embassy of Spain in Portugal and the Regional Government of Galicia.
