After participating in the last edition of the internatinal festival Quinzena de Dança de Almada, last week the choreographer Sofia Fitas was invited to an artistic residency in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Atanas de Maev, director of the Derida Dance Center, with whom Companhia de Dança de Almada has been a partner in several European projects, invited the Portuguese creator and performer, resident in France.

Of Sofia Fitas' previous creations, stands out, “Fora do Esquecimento”, 1st prize for Young Creators Lisbon 2000; “Experimento 1”, 1st Prize at the 13th MasDanza Festival 2008; “Que Ser?” selected for Aerowaves 2012; and “Experimento 4”, Scholarship for Choreographic Creation of the Association Beaumarchais, SACD Paris.

In 2011, she created the company Association Culturelle Experimento, in Paris, with the aim of developing, producing and disseminating her artistic work, as well as promoting the development and dissemination of dance, especially contemporary dance.

In addition to artistic creation, the Company develops several awareness-raising actions aimed at a varied audience: Open rehearsals; Discussions with the public; Video projections; Contemporary dance classes and workshops, contact-improvisation, yoga, body awareness.

The artist residency in Sofia, with a view to creating a new piece, will include a stage performance in Bulgaria.
